Happy Easter

Easter 2013

The boys did great with the Easter Bunny! Thank you Uncle John and Pat for the cute outfits! We thought for sure one or both of the boys would cry, but Logan actually loved it (Riley was indifferent). Unfortunately in all the smiley Logan pictures Riley wasn't looking towards the camera, but he thought it was funny and even tried to grab the bunny's face.

Party!

Saturday we had a birthday party for Riley and Logan. Mema went crazy with the sesame street decorations, which the boys LOVED. Riley was quite impressive - he took one 30 minute nap all day and was happy and social - life of the party! We were so happy to see all the aunts and uncles and cousins and other family members to celebrate the boys together.

I love you Makayla!

Peek-a-boo!

I'll take one of these!

Super Logan!

Higher!

ooooooh balloon!

The boy's new favorite part of a birthday party!

Mom, I seriously love this.

Can we have cake every day?

Sure I'll share with you, Uncle Chris!

All this is for me? This is awesome!

Birthdays are great!

And the numbers are in!

Just had their 1 year check up! Both boys are doing well, although you may be surprised by their numbers...

Logan
Weight: 17 lbs, 6 oz   -   10th percentile
Height: 28 1/2 inches  -   10th percentile
Head size:  17.5 inches -  10th percentile

Riley

Weight: 17 lbs, 5 oz   -    5th percentile (I  guess that's where the cut off is)
Height: 28 1/2 inches  -   10th percentile
Head size:  18 inches   -  nearly 50th percentile

Riley has caught up in height and weight! We were guessing they were close on height, but we both still thought Riley was still lighter. We figured he wears smaller clothes because some of that weight is in his huge head, but we did not think he weighed the same! Must be all those table foods (Riley is now nose up to baby food and will eat about anything) and all that cake! He certainly does eat more than Logan. We were also given the okay to start switching over to whole milk. Hooray!

Its been a whole year?

1 year

Size
We have our 1 year appointment in a week (3/28) so I guess it makes the most sense to wait till them for the measurements. We can’t wait to see who is officially taller. It’s so close we keep changing our minds. Riley is definitely lighter though – we’ll see by how much. Both boys are 6-9 month onesies and clothes, but Riley still fits in a few 3-6 month things and Logan has grown out of a few 6-9 month clothes. It’s so hard to guess what sizes they’ll be in for summer, but we are dying to buy some of the cute new clothes that have come out.
Riley is ready to move up a shoe size and join Logan in size 3.

Eat-Sleep-Play
Riley and Logan are still on regular formula – we are waiting for our appointment to start switching to whole milk. They still take about 2-5 oz at a time, 4 bottles a day and still get solid food at least three times a day. We still haven’t been adding in too many more table foods because of Logan’s gag reflex issue. It took forever to get him in to see a speech therapist, and that woman was a waste of time, so we are seeing a new, hopefully more helpful speech therapist on Tuesday. In addition to only wanting to eat pureed food, puff, crunchies, and soda bread (yes, soda bread), Logan has become increasingly picky with his baby food. He will not eat any vegetables. Fruit and dinners containing sweet potatoes are all he’s willing to eat at dinnertime. He starts screaming if we attempt to give him something else. With the volume of his screams, Steve keeps getting worried there is something wrong, but I believe it’s an advanced case of pickyeateritis. He seems to eat fruit just fine. Riley, on the other hand, is like a trash compacter. He’ll eat anything. Well anything except stage 3 baby food. He continues to love table food and is willing to eat any stage 2 baby food out there.

They still keep getting colds, but most of them seem less severe. Poor Logan’s got a phlegmy cough again. He’s over the virus, but those coughs seem to stick around forever. The boys typically sleep through the night these days with no trouble (though they do still seem to know exactly when we turn off our light). They are still in bed between 7:30 and 8:10 and their AM nap is still about the same -  an hour to 2  ½ hours around 10:00. Their PM naps have been averaging a bit longer and aren't usually shorter than an hour. At daycare, they are typically taking 2-3 naps a day.

Surprisingly, neither boy is walking yet, but I’ve got even money on Logan. They are constantly standing and cruising and love Love LOVE their walkers. If only they were better at turning around…But they are very stable and walk nicely with them, even one handed. When they are standing up with toys in both hands, they use their belly to lean on the table. So cute!

Both boys love their new birthday presents – especially the “activity garden.” Riley loves to play with the mailbox on it. They also still love their table and things that aren't toys. They also really like crayons and coloring. Logan is a good scribbler!

Check out my ride, yo

Personality
Riley is ALWAYS laughing. He’s such a happy kid and his smile is infectious. He loves to play with others and is definitely a people pleaser. He listens very well and will do anything for applause. Especially, “so big!” He is a total doll and has started giving real, arms out hugs. Logan is always coming up with new silly faces. His most recent one is a fish face. He is still very chill, but tends to be more clingy and lovey. He still does not listen as well and is definitely not a pleaser. It seems like he is thinking he will show you how big he is when he wants to, so stop asking! He’s totally about looking good though – he likes to wear his shades and loves being told how cute he looks!
Both boys continue to be wonderfully behaved when out, which makes be believe I can take them just about anywhere!

Likes:
Riley: Eating (especially what mom’s got), Logan, walker, activity garden, being flipped upside down, kids, toys, standing/cruising, playing, computers/phones, and being applauded.
Logan: Walker, Riley, Penguin!!! (she is even more patient with him), his bottle, his pacifier (he is still addicted), being held/cuddling, playing, other kids, toys, shoes,  banging things, computers/phones, fruit, and eating crunchies.

Dislikes:
Riley: Waiting for food, not having his pacifier when he’s tired, teething, being woken up early for daycare, and brother stealing his toys.
Logan: Waiting for his bottle, not having his pacifier, teething, being woken up early for daycare, and brother stealing his toys.

New this month: Using the walker with one hand, pointing at things, making a wider variety of sounds.

First cake!

As a 1st birthday treat, Mommy and Mema took the day off and visited Adventure Aquarium with the boys. Here are some highlights from the day.

The boys got so excited when they saw Mema come in!

This is so neat! Look at those things! They are pretty!

Whoa!

 Kid zone!

We love those drums!

 Can we come back tomorrow?
I found Nemo! There he is, and there! There too!

Whoa. That's big!

Feels like spring!

Today was a super fun day. It was really nice out, so Mommy and Daddy said that we could take Penguin to the shops. They gave us each a pair of new sunglasses to wear.

Logan: I liked wearing my sunglasses, because I know I looked good. Plus, Mommy and Daddy wear. them too.

Riley: I don't know why they keep trying to make me wear things on my head. First hats, then sunglasses, what is next? A clown nose?

Anyway, we had a good time at the shops, and mom and dad bought us stuff, which we like. Plus, we were allowed to bring Penguin! Even into the stores! She was really good and she didn't bark at anybody. Not like she does at our house when someone comes over. Dad even let Logan hold her leash for a little while (with his help of course). We can't wait to go back, but we hope next time we get some ice cream. So does Daddy. Penguin says Mommy and Daddy used to take her all the time during the summer and that we've been there before, but we don't believe her.

The best part of our day was when Mommy and Daddy let us take our first bath together. In the big tub! There were lots of toys and we had so much fun splashing. Mommy got soaked! Normally we take a bath by ourselves in the little blue tub inside the big tub. We hope Mommy and Daddy let us take a bath together every night!

Look at me in the big tub!

I was really happy when Mommy put me in the big tub with toys, but I was even happier when my brother got in with me!

This is great! Let's get Mom and Dad to let us do this every night!

Splash! Splash! Splash!

11 months!

We can't believe its already been 11 months!

Size
According to our home scale, Riley is about 16 lbs 12 oz. He is still in 3-6 month onesies, but is just about ready to move on to 6-9. He is wearing a mix of 3-6 and 6-9 month clothes, but definitely needs 3-6 month pants. Logan wears 6-9 onesies and outfits, including 6-9 month pants. He still wears 6-9 month sleep’n’plays, but there is a brand or two that is either snug or too small.  According to our home scale, he is about 17 lbs 5 oz.
Their shoe sizes still haven’t changed – Riley wears a 2 and Logan wears a 3.

Eat-Sleep-Play
Riley and Logan are now on regular formula, and are doing well. Riley finally hold his bottle himself (Logan has for months now) so feeding them is super easy. They still take 3-6 oz at a time, 4 bottles a day. They still get solid food at least three times a day; still a yogurt in the morning (although now Riley also wants a fruit, oatmeal, or rice cereal to go with it), rice or oatmeal mixed with fruit in the afternoon, and a “dinner”, a veggie, and a fruit or dessert in the evening. They love crunchies and puffs and eat them for snacks. Lately with dinner we give them a food they can pick up – cooked carrots, apple pieces, black beans, mashed potatoes, etc. but we had to stop giving it to Logan. He has a really sensitive gag reflex and frequently vomits. The doctor has recommended a speech therapist to work on swallowing with him, but that has not started yet. In the meantime, he is restricted to baby food, crunchies (no puffs) and foods with easy textures we know he can handle. Riley is the polar opposite. He LOVES to eat new foods, and basically wants to eat anything we do. It’s really funny – he is just like Penguin – he is right by my side whenever I have a snack. So of course I give him some, and he taps me when he wants more. I try to let Logan taste things when I can, so we have figured out they both love guacamole, hummus, peanut butter, provolone cheese, and cheddar cheese. Riley, well he’ll eat just about anything I eat.

They have been getting cold after cold, which leads to coughing, stuffy noses, and waking up in the middle of the night crying, but overall sleeping has been pretty okay. They tend to be in bed now between 7:30 and 8:10 and wake up around 8am. When at home, the boys take a longer nap in the AM – anywhere from an hour to 2  ½ hours around 10:30, and a shorter nap in the PM – 30 minutes to an hour around 3:00.  The morning nap they take in their cribs, and sometimes the afternoon naps as well. At daycare, Logan consistently takes his AM and PM nap, and often takes an extra. Riley is getting better and takes 2 naps a lot more often than he did when first starting. It’s a good thing – they are SO CRANKY when they don’t sleep enough at day care. It makes for a miserable evening.

Riley is still crawling, but he is always pulling himself up to standing. He cruises around constantly and has even started walking while only holding on with one hand. He started pushing his table and his chair forward and walking with it so we bought him a walker. Believe it or not, Logan does a better job than Riley. Riley pushes too hard and the walker moves too fast and he can’t keep up. Logan is more careful and goes slower. In other news, Logan has started crawling on his hands and knees! His PT finally got him to do it on 2/12. He started doing it once in a while at home, and since 2/21 has converted to all hands and knees. He started pulling himself to standing on 1/19, but then he stopped for a while. Now you can’t keep him from standing. He is starting to furniture cruise, but does not take more than a step or two.

Both boys still love, love, LOVE toys, although sometimes it seems like they’d rather play with anything else – furniture, dog toys, mommy’s scrapbooks, etc. They still love the rings, their activity table, and their remote control. They still like to hold balls and small things they can bang together, and LOVE to dance. It’s so cute.

Personality
Riley and Logan seem to get cuter, funnier, and sweeter with each passing day. Riley is still very giggly and playful. He loves to play with mommy and daddy and loves to be thrown in the air, flipped upside down and swung around. He understands “no” and usually listens, although sometimes he throws himself on the floor and cries afterward. He continues to be so loving and smiling and so very happy!  He is much better with strangers and people he doesn’t see so often. He takes a few minutes to warm up, but then he loves making new friends. Sometime when we are out, he will stare at a stranger and when they smile or wave he buries his face in mommy’s shoulder. So stinkin’ cute. Logan is now more wary of strangers and people he sees less often and wants mommy and daddy. He does eventually warm up though.  He still likes to hug, snuggle, smile, and play. Logan loves to be flipped upside down as well. While Logan is definitely the easy going one, he does not listen to “no.” He looks at us, smiles, and does it anyway! He doesn’t get into things too often so its not a bog deal. He more than makes up for it with his funny expressions. He makes this puzzled face that we absolutely love. I’ve never seen a more expressive baby in my life!
They are still wonderfully behaved both at home and when we are out and about or visiting family or friends. We have taken them to restaurants a few times in the past month and sat them in the high chairs. They were so amazingly well behaved every time. No crying or whining. All smiles without even a toy to play with – they are such good children. I want to be able to remind myself of that in case it’s not still like that a year from now!

Likes:
Riley: Logan, toys, standing/cruising, playing, computers/phones, rings, banging toys together, stealing Logan’s pacifier, fruit, other kids, and EATING.
Logan: Riley, Penguin!!! (she is so incredibly patient with him), his bottle/ feeding himself, his pacifier (he is addicted. We are in trouble), stealing Riley’s pacifier, being held, playing, other kids, toys, banging things, the jumparoo, computers/phones, fruit, and eating crunchies.

Dislikes:
Riley: Waiting for food, not having his pacifier when he’s tired, teething, being woken up early for daycare, and being left alone (when can’t see mommy or daddy, like if we go change Logan’s diaper).
Logan: Waiting for his bottle, not having his pacifier, teething, being woken up early for daycare, and being left alone.

New this month: Logan standing up in his crib, Riley “cruising” with one hand, Logan crawling on all fours, Logan and Riley doing “So Big!”, Riley holding his own bottle, both boys coloring (Logan is a scribbler!) and Logan starting to cruise.

So BIG!!!!!!

Mmmmmm crunchies!
